Ingredients and spices that need to be Get to make Pomfret Jhaal:
- 300 gms medium size Pomfret fish
- 1 Tbsp black mustard
- 2 Tbsp poppy seed
- 4-5 green chilies
- 2-3 tomatoes puree
- 5-6 Tbsp mustard oil
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp red chilli powder plus more
- 1/2 tsp kalonji or nigella seeds
- as per taste Salt
Steps to make Pomfret Jhaal
- Wash the fish pieces and smear with turmeric powder and salt and set aside for 5 mins
- Make a purée of tomato. Set aside. Make a paste of black Mustard seed and poppy seed with green chilies and set aside
- In a pan heat mustard oil and fry the fish each side 3 mins on medium flame. Set aside
- In the same pan add nigella or Kalonji, slit green chilies and tomato purée, cook on medium flame until oil surfaces.
- Add mustard seed-poppy seed-green chilli paste and stir well, add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, add the fish pieces and smear very well but carefully
- Add salt and add 1 cup warm water, cover and let the juice cook with the fish pieces for 3-5 mins.
- Set aside the cover and drizzle mustard oil, slit green chilies.
- Plate and enjoy with steamed rice
